The weight of age is numb, yet not to bow the head. I was talking about the famous German philosopher Eurgen Hebermas at this time. This year he is 91, yet he still gives interviews and comes on television. He is steadfast in his arguments and philosophy about world politics and the social system.

This philosopher was recently nominated for the Arab Literary Prize. Sheikh Zayed, known as the Arab Literary Award, was due to be received this year. The value of the award is 2 crore 25 lakh rupees. But philosopher Eurgen Hebermas politely declined the award.

But why did Jগrgen Habermas reject this huge sum of money? Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed of Abu Dhabi, the richest man in the Arab world, is currently the main sponsor of the Arab Literary Prize. The award was launched in 2006 to honor the best writers, intellectuals, publishers, and cultural figures and organizations of the Arab world. The award was presented in memory of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, ruler of the United Arab Emirates. The award was later extended to other subjects. Since 2013, the award has been awarded in a new format to honor the most written works in Chinese, German, and English on Arabic civilization and culture, including novels, short stories, and poems.

The best cultural figures and organizations of the previous year were UNESCO, Palestinian poet Denis Johnson Davis, University of Madrid professor Pedro Martinez Montavelz, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Lebanese-born French writer Amin Malouf, Moroccan philosopher, historian, and historian Misr Alhair. Former Vice-Chancellor Mohammed Al Tayeb, Palestinian writer Salma Khadra Zyusi, and others have been honored.

The award is already considered a prestigious award in the world. On the eve of the award's announcement in 2021, Mohammed Khalifa Al Mubarak, chairman of the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism, said of this year's nominees: Eurgen Hebermas is a significant figure in contemporary German philosophy and his philosophy has helped establish dialogue and understanding between civilizations. It has strengthened the values of tolerance and coexistence.

Ali Bin Tamim, chairman of the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Center, said: Has become. Nominating a philosopher like Eurgen Hebermas as the best cultural figure of the year will have an impact on international culture, including Arabic, and his philosophical writings will influence other cultures. In addition, the award will build cultural ties between the Arab world and Germany.

Born in Dosseldorf, Germany in 1929, Eurgen Hebermas has been called the pioneer of critical theory in both German sociology and philosophy. He is one of the most popular philosophers and sociologists in the world. He is known in the academic world for his lectures, actions, and contributions to rational theory through his work on social philosophy. Most recently he was a professor of philosophy at the University of Frankfurt Goethe.

The philosopher Jগrgen Habermas may have received the Arab Literature Prize a few weeks ago. However, he was hesitant to accept the award in the end. Recently, the well-known German newspaper Der Spiegel published two articles on the human rights violations and weak democratization of the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and the United Arab Emirates. The article cites Mohammad bin Zayed, the award's main sponsor, as a highly controversial politician. In addition, the United States-based non-governmental organization, Freedom House, cites research on democracy, political freedom, and human rights, citing the UAE's practice of democracy and human rights at a very low level. The article goes on to say, "Did the philosopher Eurgen Habermas change his mind and path in his last years?"

Then the philosopher Eurgen Hebermas said in a statement, 'I had doubts about this award. Before agreeing to accept the award, I wanted to know about the awardees and who have been honored with this award before. I asked Urgun Boss, director of the Frankfurt Book Fair and a member of the jury committee for the award, for information. However, I was not informed about the names of all the awardees and the exact human rights situation in the country. Eurgen Hebermas said the current political situation in Abu Dhabi and its close contacts with the awardees were not clear to him.

Philosopher Eurgen Hebermas said: 'The decision to accept the Sheikh Zayed or Arab Literature Prize was a wrong decision and I have now corrected it. If my decision is conducive to democracy and human rights in the country, it will be the victory of my lifelong cherished philosophy.

The world-famous German philosophers Friedrich Hegel, Arthur Schopenhauer, Friedrich Nietzsche, Karl Marx, Karl Jasper, and other successors, the contemporary German philosopher Eurgen Habermas, did not surrender to human rights violators but to the credit of his predecessors.
