The philosopher Jগrgen Habermas may have received the Arab Literature Prize a few weeks ago. However, he was hesitant to accept the award in the end. Recently, the well-known German newspaper Der Spiegel published two articles on the human rights violations and weak democratization of the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and the United Arab Emirates. The article cites Mohammad bin Zayed, the award's main sponsor, as a highly controversial politician. In addition, the United States-based non-governmental organization, Freedom House, cites research on democracy, political freedom, and human rights, citing the UAE's practice of democracy and human rights at a very low level. I asked Urgun Boss, director of the Frankfurt Book Fair and a member of the jury committee for the award, for information. However, I was not informed about the names of all the awardees and the exact human rights situation in the country. Eurgen Hebermas said the current political situation in Abu Dhabi and its close contacts with the awardees were not clear to him.
Philosopher Eurgen Hebermas said: 'The decision to accept the Sheikh Zayed or Arab Literature Prize was a wrong decision and I have now corrected it. If my decision is conducive to democracy and human rights in the country, it will be the victory of my lifelong cherished philosophy.
